Not off the sheep's back

Isn't it ironic, that the fate of asylum seekers and refugees who flee to Australia, is fought out on the floor of Parliament and studios of talk-back radio stations, by Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott - two political leaders whose families came to our shores in search of a better life.

But of course that is quite different.

Those branded "economic refugees" by the mass media and their fact-starved audience, are from countries the West historically brought freedom, civilization and democray to, by leaving their homes in ruins and condemning their countries to decades of political turmoil. But never mind about that - just send them back home, push them back out to sea, or send them to counties where human rights are empty promises made when in need of foreign aid.

Mind you, there are times when I also think, "send them back home." However, it only happens when I see Gillard or Abbott making yet another speech that erodes what used to be Australian spirit.

It is said this beautiful country was built off the sheeps back. It wasn't.

It was built on the backs of, and with the blood sweat and tears of immigrants.

Lest we forget.
