I am no stranger

I am no stranger
Though there are those who think it so
And many who wish it were
I hide not in shadows nor in darkness
Nor parade in colored cloaks on sunlit shores.

The King in his Counting House and The Beggar in The Gutter
Have welcomed or scorned my name
I care not which
I care not why
I care not who

Offer me no gold
Nor show me your tears
I see what I need to see
Beneath your finely woven clothes
And your tattered, lonely rags

I am no stranger
Though there are those who think it so
And many who wish it were
Though I never was, and never will
Be a stranger to hearts that beat with my name

You see this heart that lies upon my hand?
