Who was that boy, that youth, that man?

Who was that boy, that youth, that man?
I knew them so well
In days long gone
In nights soon forgotten
In loves long loneliness
In dawn's empty bed.

Who was it who wore those shoes?
Soles well worn by souls so weary
I see their faces
I hear their names
Yet they are strangers to me now
For they were strangers to me then

I know no boy, no youth
Only one man
The man She helped me see
He had always been there
I just could not see
Until my name fell gently from her lips,
And led me from shadows, cast so long ago.
