Eat your heart out Steed

John Steed
Today has seen another day of non-stop torrential rain in Sydney and unfortunately I had to brave the puddles, cascades of water running down the pavement, and the drip, drip, drips from overhanging trees.

Never mind, such weather does have it's good side. It gives me a chance to do "the umbrella thing".

You have all seen it no doubt, especially if you are devotees of the old British TV program, "The Avengers". Every episode featured John Steed (Patrick Macnee) looking, charming, suave, elegant and sophisticated - a look considerably helped by his finesse with his trusty black, rolled up umbrella.

The rain gives me the chance to do that! You at the back - stop laughing will you!

Take today for instance. There I was in the aisle of my local supermarket with a couple of pork chops in one hand, a cucumber tucked under my arm, while leaning nonchalantly on the wooden handle of my black, rolled up umbrella, chatting away to an attractive young woman.

I could tell by the way she smiled in the right places, that she was suitably impressed by my insightful conversation as I knowledgeably advised her, "Don't get your cabbage here luv, they're much fresher in the shop downstairs".

As we chatted away, and I continued using my John Steed look alike, black, rolled up umbrella to maximum effect, I could not help but think to myself, "John Steed - eat your heart out baby."

Of course he was taller than me. Much taller in fact.

And younger

And fitter

And his umbrella didn't slip!
